Radiance

don’t be afraid of the bright lights that explode in your eyes
and leave spots on their way
out of this bleached room;
swirling in notes
that fluctuate,
dwindle
and
wilt

instead, remember the times you sipped strawberry sundaes
atop sun-kissed car hoods
and bubbled inside,
light,
from the caress of satin coats
and nudges of whiskered noses

remember the sanctuaries
of clouds and pillows
surrounding couches and carpets
that embrace and love you
like how your father cradles
you to sleep at night

ignore the stings of peppered barks
from weathered lenses;
don’t let them look you in the eye
with sterile lights and flooding flashes
threatening to drown the brilliant radiance of that pristine Smile.
